Thermal Connection Assessment
The Thermal Connection Assessment Program (TCAP) evaluates the expected thermal load (chilled water and steam) for new capital building projects or renovations. This ensures appropriate budgeting for central delivery of thermal utilities instead of individual building systems.
Benefits
- Incremental Funding: Supports gradual capacity increases in central plant and district energy equipment based on new or increased building demands.
- Future Load Planning: Provides a funding mechanism for planning future thermal loads.
- Energy Savings: Consolidates equipment, leading to campus-wide energy savings.
- Cost-Effective Redundancy: Offers redundancy, resilience and reliability at a lower cost through the central utility plant.
- Longer Equipment Life Cycle: Central utility plant equipment has a longer, more cost-effective life cycle.
- Higher Efficiency: Central utility plant equipment operates at higher efficiencies, reducing energy consumption.
- Lower Emissions: Minimizes emissions by utilizing central/district energy.
- Space Optimization: Improves space utilization within buildings by eliminating the need for large mechanical rooms and additional equipment.
