Energy Management Assistance Team

Energy Management supports cross-functional efforts within the Facilities Division’s Campus Operations and Maintenace group. Specifically, the Energy Management Assistance Team (EMAT) is formed through the collaboration between Energy Management and Building Maintenance and Operations (BM&O) to enhance building system efficiency and energy consumption.

Purpose

The Energy Management Assistance Team (EMAT) supports Building Maintenance and Operations (BM&O) in four key areas. These efforts are coordinated through regular joint reviews and require mutual agreement between Energy Management and BM&O, under the oversight of Campus Operations and Maintenance.

These focus area include:

  • Building ReTuning: Identifying energy-saving opportunities through joint BAS audits and investigations.
  • Energy Optimization: Exploring and implementing energy and water reduction opportunities, such as using energy-efficient alternative power technologies, heat recovery systems and Automated Fault Detection and Diagnostics in Plants and Buildings.
  • Technical Resource: Assisting BM&O with problem-solving, troubleshooting, hiring technical consultants, reporting and developing recommendations.
  • Project Scoping: Helping develop and define scope and justification for energy-related projects on submissions to the Facilities Integrated Priority List (IPL) or Annual Spend Plan (ASP).
